bridges and rumba. The bridges here are needed because of the many rivers passing through. The name &#8222;Matanzas&#8220; comes from the verb &#8222;matar&#8220; which means &#8222;to kill&#8220; chosen because of the brutal massacre of the Spanish towards the <a href=\"https:\/\/bgspace.com\/cuba\/%d0%b3%d1%83%d0%b0%d0%bc%d0%b0\/\">Taino Indians<\/a> during the colonial period.<\/p>\n<p>In the city centre you will see the fire station hosted by a beautiful colonial building. The road of Matanzas has been fought out during the 70s of the last century and curves through several spectacular bridges.<\/p>\n<p>The city is located 100 km away from Havana, so if you have headed to the biggest Cuban resort <a href=\"https:\/\/bgspace.com\/cuba\/%d0%b2%d0%b0%d1%80%d0%b0%d0%b4%d0%b5%d1%80%d0%be\/\">Varader\u043e<\/a> you will surely stumble upon Matanzas.
