Province. The city is situated in the central part of Cuba, and it has a population of 238 000 citizens. It is a cultural and trade centre with an airport. Up until the 19 century, the main occupation of the people here is the sugar plantations. The city was founded on the 15th of July 1689 by 175 settlers. Santa Clara is a municipal city. The current president of Cuba was born in the nearby city of Placetas.<\/p>\n<p>The city&#8217;s name comes from the Cuban Revolution, and more precisely with the battle on the 26th of July led by the Argentinian revolutionary Che Guevara. in 1988 they built a mausoleum in his honour, and in 1977 his remnants are moved here. In the mausoleum, you can see Che Guevera&#8217;s personal belongings.
