You will hear it at any concert or a show in Cuba doesn&#8217;t matter whether it is in <a href=\"https:\/\/bgspace.com\/cuba\/%D0%B1%D0%B0%D1%80-%D1%82%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%BF%D0%B8%D0%BA%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B0-%D0%BA%D1%83%D0%B1%D0%B0-%D1%85%D0%B0%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B0\/\">Tropican\u0430 Bar<\/a>, Parisian Cabaret, or <a href=\"https:\/\/bgspace.com\/cuba\/%d0%b1%d1%83%d0%b5%d0%bd%d0%b0-%d0%b2%d0%b8%d1%81%d1%82%d0%b0-%d1%81%d0%be%d1%81%d0%b8%d0%b0%d0%bb-%d0%ba%d0%bb%d1%83%d0%b1-%d0%ba%d1%83%d0%b1%d0%b0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buena Vista Social Club.<\/a> There are versions of the song all over the world and in various languages. The author of the popular song is Joseito Fernandez \/1908-1979\/, and many think that it is a story about his unrequited love for the &#8222;guajira from Guantanamo&#8220; &#8211; the village girl from <a href=\"https:\/\/bgspace.com\/cuba\/%d0%b3%d1%83%d0%b0%d0%bd%d1%82%d0%b0%d0%bd%d0%b0%d0%bc%d0%be-%d0%ba%d1%83%d0%b1%d0%b0\/\">Guantanamo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Joseito Fernandez doesn&#8217;t come from <a href=\"https:\/\/bgspace.com\/cuba\/%d0%b3%d1%83%d0%b0%d0%bd%d1%82%d0%b0%d0%bd%d0%b0%d0%bc%d0%be-%d0%ba%d1%83%d0%b1%d0%b0\/\">Guantanamo<\/a> but from <a href=\"https:\/\/bgspace.com\/cuba\/top-10-%d1%82%d1%83%d1%80%d0%b8%d1%81%d1%82%d0%b8%d1%87%d0%b5%d1%81%d0%ba%d0%b8-%d0%b7%d0%b0%d0%b1%d0%b5%d0%bb%d0%b5%d0%b6%d0%b8%d1%82%d0%b5%d0%bb%d0%bd%d0%be%d1%81%d1%82%d0%b8-%d0%b2-%d1%85%d0%b0\/\">Havan\u0430.<\/a> The initial version of the song praises the beauty of a farmer girl from <a href=\"https:\/\/bgspace.com\/cuba\/%d0%b3%d1%83%d0%b0%d0%bd%d1%82%d0%b0%d0%bd%d0%b0%d0%bc%d0%be-%d0%ba%d1%83%d0%b1%d0%b0\/\">Guantanamo<\/a>. The song was written in 1928 and is in &#8222;son&#8220; style &#8211; the heart of salsa whose origin dates back to the 20s of the last century. Guantanamera becomes popular in 1943 when Joseito and his band sign a contract with the national radio station El Suceso de hoy \/the event today\/. Then they perform a satiric version of the song about the corruption and crimes of a famous politician.<br \/>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gdYIpvnzoW8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Spanish success of Guantanamera comes in the 50s when the Spanish composer Julian Orbon adds to the song lyrics the famous verse of the national Cuban hero Jose Marti &#8220; Versos Senciilos&#8220; or&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.literatura.us\/marti\/sencillos.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The verse of the heart<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"aCOpRe\">Yo soy un hombre sincero. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"aCOpRe\">De donde crece la palma. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"aCOpRe\">Y antes de morirme quiero. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span class=\"aCOpRe\">Echar mis versos del alma<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The song version with the verse of Jose Marti reaches the North-American producer Peter Seeger who popularises the song in Latin America and the world. It is then that the song becomes world-famous.<\/p>\n<p>According to some historical sources instead of Guantanamera, there were song versions with guajira <a href=\"https:\/\/bgspace.com\/cuba\/%D0%BA%D1%80%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%B8%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%8F%D1%82-%D0%BA%D0%B0%D0%BC%D0%B0%D0%B3%D1%83%D0%B5%D0%B9-%D0%B2%D1%81%D0%B5%D0%BA%D0%B8-%D0%BF%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%BA-%D1%81-%D0%BA%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%B5%D0%B4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Camaguer\u0430<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bgspace.com\/cuba\/%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%B3%D0%B8%D0%BD-%D0%BA%D1%83%D0%B1%D0%B0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Holguiner\u0430<\/a>.
