Guama

I recommend floating on a boat along the 11-kilometer canal surrounded by virgin forests. The sweet lake waters are rich in various fauna. Once you find yourself in a big lake you will reach a small picturesque island. The place is a representation of the former American-Indian village of the Taino tribe. You will see their huts, belongings, and tools. When the American Indians are cast away from their lands their only shelter becomes this island teeming with crocodiles around. Namely here the Spanish conquistadors attack the Indians and kill them to the last tribe member. A legend has it that the tribe leader Guamа throws the Indian treasure of gold (tesoro) into the lake waters in order to save it from the hand of the Spanish conquistadors. Thereafter the lake bears the name Tesoro. The contemporary touristic village built at the historic site will let you feel the atmosphere of the Taino tribe.
There is a museum of the American-Indian way of life and culture. Their skill to hunt crocodiles and fish using only sticks, nets, and bare hands is represented by different statues.
Next to the farm, there is a place where you can try crocodile meat.
In this area, you can also visit a wonderful botanical garden with a greenhouse of exotic plants. You can also try juice and cocktails from different fruit such as papaya, coconut, red bananas, and others. You will get to see how coffee, pineapples, bananas, and sugar cane. I definitely recommend the guarapo drink /freshly squeezed sugar cane juice and rum/.
