Dance and Music in Cuba

Dancing and music in Cuba are everywhere. Cuba is music and the music itself is Cuba. It doesn’t matter whether it is on the beach, in the pubs, or in the streets in Cuba everybody is singing and dancing salsa, rumba, mambo, afro-jazz, changui, danzon, son bolero, and others. The last three styles are quite popular in the capital of son Santiago de Cubа.

The African folklore is strongly present in all of the dance styles. One can tell by the many percussion instruments such as the gong, claves, бata drums, and others. The Cuban music for me is an incredible world heritage. It brings joy and love and it speaks to the world on behalf of Cuba leaving a unique message. More detailed information will be published soon on the topics of rumba and guanco, salsa de casino cha-cha-cha and others. Here is the right spot to add that LA Salsa and New York Salsa have nothing in common with the original Cuban salsa. These styles are commercial and they lack the heart and authenticity of the Cuban vibe in the salsa dance. Here you can find out more about Buena Vista Social Club and Bar Tropicana in Havana.

We organize special salsa trips during which our tourists have the chance to learn salsa from local teachers, try their skills and dance in the local pubs, and just enjoy life.

We often visit the clubs that are the birthplace of one of the most popular dances in the world – Rueda de Casino.

Rumba is a reflection of the deities’ spirits. There are different styles of rumba that represent various orishas. When the dancer is dressed in blue and performs flowing movements, they represent goddess Yemaya. When you see a warrior in red with sharp advancing movements he is Chango. The gentle Oshun – the symbol of love and feminine harmony is dressed in yellow. Her dance is graceful and flowing – one that you could fall in love with. We take our tourists to places where they can experience the sacred and the secret of the Cuna culture and dances. Find out more about the connection between rumba and religion here.
